170 Home Visits for first season success.

Healthy Homes first season success: 170 home visits

Our new project, Healthy Homes for Wellbeing, started in November 2017, and what a busy first season we had. This free energy advice service and free LEAP home visits for those who are eligible, is delivered by 6 fully trained Home Energy Advisers across Exeter, Mid Devon, East Devon, Teignbridge and Torbay.

At drop-in energy advice clinics, events, talks and during LEAP home visits, we give practical energy advice and support to the vulnerable and fuel poor. The free LEAP home visit provides a home energy survey and then a tailored support package covering energy saving tips, installation of free easy measures, help with bills, switching and discounts, referring on for benefit and debt advice, grants for insulation and heating and for safety checks.

During our first season we have been building links with key frontline workers, who are in prime position to refer vulnerable residents to us for support. This includes Exeter City Council customer support officers, CAB staff and volunteers, community builders and connecters from the Exeter Wellbeing Project, consultants from RD and E, Housing Association officers, family support workers, Age Concern and Over 55’s groups.

We have also been developing relationships with several community centres across Exeter and Mid Devon where we now hold regular drop in energy advice clinics.

As at May 2018 we had completed 170 LEAP home visits and spoken directly with a further 150 residents. A number of people we helped are about to have new boilers installed, and some will have lofts and cavity walls insulated. You can read more about the savings made during this first season in our Annual Report, and we will provide further updates as we get the figures through from LEAP and our partners.

Even though we are in the middle of summer we are still very busy with Home visits, clinics and talks and are gearing ourselves up for the coming Autumn/Winter season, when we hope to reach even more people in need of our advice services.
