After a successful third year of ECOE’s Community Fund, it is now open for applications again. The fund is available for local community groups to apply for financing for projects that help to save energy and/or help to alleviate fuel poverty. For 2020, we have a total of £6,790 available, up from £6,235 last year. £3,500 comes from income from our solar PV and Healthy Homes for Wellbeing projects. ECOE members have donated £2,100 donated from their interest – thanks to everyone who did this. And the final chunk is £1230 rolled over from the 2019 round that the recipients were unable to spend.

In case you missed it, we awarded funds to 11 groups in our 2019 community fund campaign. You can read what we’ve already written about that here. The pandemic has held up some of these projects, but many have already been successfully delivered.

For example, Seadream Education used its funding to run three classes across two Exeter schools over the pandemic period. This gave them a fun and educational workshop at a time when reassurance is needed that efforts are continuing and must be continued to combat climate change, and, that their individual actions really do count.

We also helped keep TRIP Community Transport open over this difficult period. ‘The grant from ECOE could not have come at a more important time for TRIP,’ says deputy manager Sharon Thorne. ‘The money has helped us keep the “doors open” and help the Community during the current pandemic. The money was invaluable in helping towards supporting over 400 community support requests.  Thank you!’

How to apply

For applications for 2020, the details regarding who can apply, for what and our criteria for the allocation of the grants can be found in our guidance notes. We will check all applications to see if they meet our criteria. Under the current circumstances we will be unable to hold our usual Collaborative Allocation event. Instead, a group made up of ECOE members, directors and partners from rooftop solar sites, local community groups and local statutory organisations will judge the proposals. If you would like to be a part of that group, please volunteer at info@ecoe.org.uk.

We are open for applications now and will close on January 15th 2021 at 5pm, and we will allocate the funds by the end of February 2021.

If you have any queries email info@ecoe.org.uk.
