With the government intending to close the Feed-In Tariffs (FITs) Scheme to new applications after 31 March 2019, ECOE is working hard to develop new solar PV prospects. We are almost ready to apply to pre-register for FITs at our most advanced site, The Beacon Community Centre, which will have 25.65kW peak output. Once our application is accepted, we will have a year to raise money and then construct the installation.

There are also two other tentative prospects for this round of projects, called ‘Solar PV 3’ collectively, one of which is potentially high profile. We would need to have applied to pre-register by 31 March to qualify for FITs. We’ve also explored a number of other prospects that sadly were not viable in current circumstances. In order to be financially viable with current FIT values, the sites are all in the 25-50kW peak output range.

While FITs are needed to make the projects viable, a large proportion of the income comes from selling electricity to the sites we put panels on. We offer a lower rate than sites pay for their electricity, which offers them a clear financial benefit. We can then use that money to run ECOE and support our community fund.
