Respect Festival – Sunday 7th June, Belmont Park

1392121079639
If you’re free this weekend make sure you pop along to Exeter Respect Festival – the city’s annual celebration of diversity which uses the performing and creative arts to engage the wider community in saying no to racism and all forms of prejudice. It’s an amazing event and we’ll be there with a stall on Sunday so do come and say hello. If you’re free to help out on the stall that would be much appreciated, please contact gillwyatt@ecoe.org.uk.

ECOE Social – Thursday 11th June, Phoenix bar

Untitled

Our last ECOE social was brilliant, it was great to see lots of new and known faces. This month it’s on 11th June from 6pm in the Phoenix bar. ECOE is all about people, so it’s lovely to have the opportunity to get to know each other more, find out about what ECOE is doing and the local green scene. Hope to see as many of you there this month as last.

ECOE stall at Princesshay Square – 20th June 10am-4pm

On 20th June we’ll be gathering your memories and knowledge of energy in Exeter with our friends from RegenSW and local artist Rob Mason all day, and coming up with ideas for how we can produce and use it in the future. We’ll be using these ideas to inform our roof search for Solar PV1 and later to produce an illustrated map of the city for a poster for Relight My Fire festival – a long weekend of arts events focusing on energy issues in Exeter, 18-20th September. (More info on that coming soon, watch this space!)

Public Meeting & AGM – 22nd June 6pm

Stephens Scown Solicitors Meeting Room, Curzon House, Southernhay
AGMPublicmeeting
We’d like to invite everyone who has an interest in Exeter’s energy future along to this public meeting to review our first year and look forward to what we can achieve in the future. ECOE Exec Chair Gill Wyatt will open the session with a presentation on our progress so far, followed by short sessions and Q&As as follows:
• The Renewable Heat Incentive – Alistair Mumford, RegenSW
• Local Supply – Sonya Bedford, Stephens & Scown/ECOE
• Energy Efficiency – Joe Smee, ECOE

The public meeting will be followed by a networking and drinks session and finally by our first AGM at 8pm. Before we launch our share offer we technically only have 8 members – our founding Directors – but ECOE is a broad community movement and we want to reflect that by opening up attendance at the AGM to anyone who wants to come, so please do stick around for it.

We’ll be looking for volunteers to help at this event and also people to make delicious cakes for the refreshments. If you’re interested in either please contact gillwyatt@ecoe.org.uk

The future of community energy

Wed 2nd Sept, 18.30 for 18.45, The Meeting Room, Stephens Scown Solicitors, Exeter
ECOE, partnering with the Geography Department, University of Exeter

This event will explore current challenges and opportunities facing community energy groups intent on promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies given the context of evolving policies on nuclear power, shale gas, solar, onshore wind and shared ownership. Our aim is to stimulate collaborative learning by bringing key players together in dialogue, reflecting on UK and European experiences. Participants will include members of local community energy groups, international energy academics attending the RGS-IGB Conference at the University of Exeter, industry representatives, public sector officers, policy makers and the public.

Green Open Homes

We’re applying for funding from DECC to run a green open homes event in October this year. We’ve learnt a lot about how to make these successful now and we’re really looking forward to doing it again, not least because we know from experience that people are more likely to make home energy improvements after attending an event. If you have a green home (especially if you have improved it since visiting one of our green open homes) please get in touch with us now.
