Many of us are concerned about the rising costs of energy and the climate crisis.  As a homeowner or landlord, you may be keen to reduce your energy bills or invest in renewable technology but be confused about where to start.

Retrofit isn’t always straightforward and can feel overwhelming. Queries and concerns are common, particularly at the start. For example:

  • What are the right measures for my home?
  • What is the best price?
  • How long will it take?
  • What degree of improvement will I see?
  • Is there any financial support or grants available?
  • What should I be considering when looking for contractors?

ECOE’s Retrofit Advice Service is here to help*. This customer centric, not for profit, advice service offers independent advice and support for retrofitting and upgrading your property. Delivered by an experienced team of qualified Retrofit Advisors we consider your property and circumstances as a whole. Will discuss how carrying out retrofit work can:

  • Reduce property running costs
  • Save carbon emissions
  • Improve comfort levels
  • Improve indoor air quality
  • Reduce risk of condensation and mould
  • Futureproof your property, getting it ready for energy storage or demand response

(*ECOE offers energy, fuel poverty and retrofit advice in Exeter, East Devon, Mid Devon, Teignbridge and Torbay)

ECOE offers two different levels of Retrofit Advice:

Retrofit Advice Home Visits

We are delighted to have received, for a limited time only, funding to be able to offer free 60-90 minute long retrofit advice home visits. These visits are designed to give some initial information on the points named above relevant to your home. A short write up of what has been discussed, and potential next steps will follow.

In the box asking ‘Eligibility and help requested’ please state you are interested in retrofit advice and tell us a little about your situation, such as your property size and age, any specific areas of interest, and whether you have any longer term plans (e.g. refurbishments).

Please note, the availability of free home visits is limited and ECOE reserve the right to withdraw this offer at any time.

Whole House Plan Retrofit Assessments

Our paid for Whole House Plan Retrofit Assessment service helps you fully understand the options available and enabling you to prioritise and decide on a firm retrofit plan. In this service a Retrofit Assessor will visit to complete a detailed assessment and survey of your property before analysing and modelling this information, alongside your aims and context. Ultimately creating a detailed Home Retrofit Report which will provide you with multiple scenarios, demonstrating impact, disruption and estimated cost. This detailed assessment service is especially suited to those living in complex properties, properties with complex challenges or for those planning significant works.

Who we are

Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) is a community-owned social enterprise originally formed in 2014 to deliver projects to generate renewable energy in Exeter. Alongside this energy generation we developed our award-winning fuel poverty advice service in 2017, and have helped more than 5,000 local homes in our area* to reduce their energy consumption.

We know that retrofitting existing housing stock and energy demand management have a critical part to play in our future, helping us to save energy and improve efficiency and so have launched our Retrofit Advice Service. This service is being delivered under the Energy Saving Devon partnership whose vision is to work together to make every house in Devon regenerative, healthy to live in and affordable to run, in line with the Devon Carbon Plan.

Energy Saving Devon is a not-for-profit partnership between all the local authorities in Devon, their strategic partners and local community energy organisations. It is administered by Devon County Council.
