ECOE tackles climate change while reducing electricity bills and helping the local community, a much-needed positive in today’s world. We like to keep you updated when we get a new team member. Today, we’re very pleased to introduce our new Operations and Maintenance Coordinator, Dan Grey. Read on to find out more about him!
What is your background?
I gained a BSc in Environmental Science from University of Wales, Bangor, some time ago! My studies concentrated on soils, ecology, and energy. After graduating I worked for the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Agency in various roles, but having always been passionate about the weather when I saw a recruitment scheme to join the Met Office as a weather forecaster, I didn’t hesitate in applying! That opportunity took me to Exeter to study at the Met Office College. I then worked as an operational forecaster at Met Office headquarters for several years before moving into a day-working service management role, leaving behind 24/7 shift work. I eventually moved on from the Met Office, and I’m now thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to contribute to ECOE.
What motivated you to join ECOE?
Although I have never been a member I have followed the organisation since the early days, when I could not afford to invest! I have been impressed at the number and size of solar installations ECOE has been able to build. With some experience with solar power myself, when I saw ECOE advertising for an operations and maintenance coordinator I thought I would be able to contribute to the original aims of ECOE – community-owned, zero-carbon energy.
What should members and supporters talk to you about if they bump into you?
Anything about the energy transition – how we can and must move away from using fossil fuels to harvesting the energy we need from the wind and the sun. I can talk about it for hours…
