Meet the ECOE team: Paul Whittall, HEA

ECOE HEA Paul Whittall

ECOE Home Energy Adviser Paul Whittall

Hopefully you’ve read some of these posts introducing you to the ECOE team before. If not, the idea is to keep you up to date on the new faces to you so that you don’t wonder who they are when you meet them. Here, we introduce Paul Whittall.

What is your role at ECOE  Paul?

I am a part-time Home Energy Adviser (HEA) for ECOE’s Health Homes for Wellbeing project. I’m one of the team that visits residents to give energy advice on Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) home visits.  I also run energy advice clinics and give impartial energy advice by telephone. I’ve recently started doing some of the admin work too, now that our team is getting bigger.

What’s your background?

I have a background linked to many aspects of the local community. I have worked in recycling with East Devon District Council, sustainable travel with Travel Devon, and entertainment. As a mature student I took a degree in music from Exeter University, followed by a long career in the performing arts. I have worked not just in the South West but all over the UK and abroad in my chosen field so have a good knowledge of people and places.

What motivated you to join ECOE?

Back in 2019 a Home Energy Advisor from ECOE came to visit me at home. I saw instantly what a useful and committed organisation the company is. Also, I realised how much this sector needs. I am very pleased with the level of support I and the tools we have at ECOE offer people in all areas of society. In these days of increasing uncertainty, it is clear we have a role to play in addressing fuel poverty and maintaining a connection within the wider community.

What should members and supporters talk to you about if they bump into you?

I like all types of music, as a working musician all my life. As well as holding a degree in music composition, I have a huge knowledge of the subject which I am always willing to share. Sport has been one of my great passions since I was a boy, captaining my school at football and cricket. I am still very much in touch with current events. Also, I play croquet to a high level and am currently a member at the Budleigh Salterton Club. I am pleased to have recently found a new passion for nature and the environment, and in particular birds, bees and butterflies.
