ECOE community fund awards £7,710 to eight local groups

LOVE FOOD CIC used ECOE's grant to run energy efficient cookery sessions

LOVE FOOD CIC has again won support from the ECOE Community Fund

Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) is delighted to have awarded £7,710 in grants to eight local groups to help them reduce  their climate impact. ECOE’s community fund provides grants to groups in and near Exeter working to save energy, reduce reliance on fossil fuels and/or enhance social equity and justice within the community. The fund draws on the income from our ten solar power sites, donations from ECOE members and surplus income from our Healthy Homes for Wellbeing project. We expect ECOE’s community fund to make over £170,000 available over the 20-year lifespan of our solar panels.

This year, ECOE received nine applications and made awards to eight groups.

Chudleigh Community Project

The project relates to Chudleigh Community Swimming Pool, which is operated by the charity. Thermal solar panels were installed 16 years ago. The heat generated helps heat the water but is wasted when the pool is not used. Propose to replace the thermal panels with PV panels and the electricity generated will be used to power the pool electrical equipment, principally the main pool pumps. When the pool is closed, surplus electricity will be stored in a battery and fed back to our electricity supplier.
