New ECOE director Mark Allen
ECOE tackles global warming while reducing electricity bills—a win-win that resonates with many, including new members of our directorial team. When someone new joins us, we love to share the news with you to keep you in the loop. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce our latest addition, Mark Allen, who will become our Health and Safety director. Read on to learn more about him!
What is your role at ECOE?
I joined the ECOE Board as a Director in December 2024. I will focus mainly on Health and Safety.
What is your background?
I have been a Member of Exeter Community Energy since November 2015. I provided consultancy support to ECOE for the PV2 share issue and 9 solar installations. I also worked as an ECOE Energy Advisor from December 2017-November 2018 providing energy and cost saving advice across south Devon, by train and bicycle. I work as an environmental consultant on recycling, energy and waste management, mostly for local councils.
What motivated you to join ECOE?
We are in a climate emergency! Since I was born carbon emissions have climbed relentlessly and bio-diversity has fallen at the same time. We need to insulate every building, support householders in a just transition away from energy poverty, as well as providing local clean energy. If our Government and the major energy companies are not doing enough then the community sector must do more.
What should members and supporters talk to you about if they bump into you?
I enjoy cycle touring and have cycled the Danube to Budapest, South Island New Zealand, and the Rhine from Switzerland to the Netherlands. I have also cycled across Ireland, and France as well as Lands End to John O’Groats on a tandem. I like reading, walking and camping too.
