Meet the new people at ECOE: Lenka Hill

ECOE’s new external independent director Lenka Hill.

The ECOE team continues to evolve with time. We’re keeping you up to date on the new faces to you so that you don’t wonder who they are when you meet them. Here, we introduce Lenka Hill.

What is your role at ECOE?

I have joined the ECOE team as an External Independent Director in April 2021. I will focus mainly on the Community Fund.

What is your background?

I completed a MA in European Union Politics at the University of Exeter with a semester at Sciences Po in Paris. I then broadened my EU knowledge at College of Europe in Warsaw. After my studies, I joined the National Audit Office in London and became a chartered accountant. During my time at NAO, I have audited various bodies from British Council, Department for International Development to UK Research and Innovation. In 2019 I joined the European Court of Auditors where I focus mainly on the use of natural resources and agricultural funds, such as Basic Payment Scheme and Rural Development Fund.

What motivated you to join ECOE?

I am a big supporter of sustainable development and actions that combat climate change. Apart from being vegan I also wanted to be part of a local community that creates local opportunities and new ways of approaching energy use in Exeter and further afield. ECOE’s work is so important in that it spreads and encourages more environmentally friendly ways of energy usage. I want to be part of a movement that enables people and businesses in Devon to become energy efficient.

What should members and supporters talk to you about if they bump into you?

I love all sports, especially those involving some sort of board. Also, I am a keen surfer, skier, snowboarder, skateboarder and wakeboarder. I also love hiking and wild-water swimming, especially on Dartmoor. However, my next challenge is to complete the cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats – the longest I have ever cycled in a day is 100 miles so I still got a long way to go to be ready.
